GORDON OLAIN PRENTICE, 55 KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. --- Gordon Olain Prentice, 55, former Rockford resident, passed away Saturday Oct 22, 1994, in the loving care of Patty O'Gara and Kelly Annarino in Knott's Island, after a 14 month battle against cancer. Born Jan 3, 1939 in Rockford, the son of George and Marion Kuppe Prentice. Grew up in Rockford and attended Rockford schools. Served in U.S. Air Force in Morocco, and was stationed in Savannah, Ga., four years. He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, hunter and bow hunter and a member of Blackhawk Archery Club. Owned and operated The Bow Rack, Rockford. Member of the Teamster Local 325 and Operating Engineers Local 150. Survivors include special friends, Patty O'Gara and Kelly Annarino, both of Knott's Island, and Shirlene Prentice of Stillman Valley; four children, Gordy Prentice, Annette (Robert) Speck, all of Rockford, special grandson, Scott, Christine (William) Rollette of Rockford, and Gregg (Linda) Prentice of Gainesville, Fla.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Maureen (Jack) Rosquist of Mount Morris, and Peggy (Phillip) Alton of Westford, Mass; four brothers, Patrick (Pamela) Prentice of Flagstaff, Az. , George O.(Esther) Prentice of Rockford, Il., Michael V (Linda) Prentice of Cape Coral, Fl., and Mark (Dixie) Prentice of New Orleans, La.; several nieces and nephews and special friends, George and Barbara Hertzner of Rockford. Predeceased by parents; grandparents Clinton and Ella Prentice and Alfreda Kuppe; an infant son and one sister. Funeral service at 7 pm Wed., Oct 26 in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Rockford, with the Rev. William Richard Kerr, Sr. pastor of Riverside Community Church, officiating, Cremation rites will follow service.
