Prentice family from 1631
Where our last name came from.......Back, way back in fact, in the early 1600 hundreds, everyone (in England) had only a first name (with a sur title) I.e. John The Baptist, John The Great, and so on, you got the picture? In the early 1600 hundreds the King of England declared that everyone have a first and last name except of course for Him and his wife, go figure....So in 1612 our great, great, great, great, and so how many greats there is, our forbearer change his name from John The Apprentice----To John Prentice---- And that's the truth.. John and his family left England shortly there after for the U.S. John took up farming in Mass. however being a carpenter ended up building barns and out buildings for neighbors. Many years later the family ended up near Kishwakee, Il farming their farms....Now we are in the late 1800 hundreds, do to a family tragedy somebody killed somebody and the records are very limited, like most families back then they just did not talk or record that stuff.....       Author Patrick Orville Prentice
Question - If John The Apprentice built a boat did he named it "The Apprenticeship"?
A majority of the following is from recorders kept by Ella Prentice, Internet Searches, Prenticenet.com and the book "The Great Migration Begins" 1620-1633 author Robert Charles Anderson
No the early Prentice's did not migrated to America with the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims arrive in America in 1620 and first Prentice family arrived 1631. But in my mind that's vary close. The early Prentice's were Puritans Did any Prentice participate in the Salem Witch Trial's in 1692? I don't know but they lived only 20 miles away.
Valentine Prentice (b. 1601 - d. 1634) and married to Alice Bredda (d. 1643) 6-26-1626 in Nazeing, Essex, migrated to to America in 1631 aboard the "Lyon" with John Eliot later titled “Apostle to the Indians” and took up residence in Roxbury, MA. The ship Lyon made serval trip brining migrates to America. But in 1632 the Lyon sank off the Virginia coast on its way back to England. Three known children, Josias Prentice died before sailing, Geremiah Prentice died at sea, and the third son John Prentice. John Prentice (d1691), son of Valentine and Alice Prentice born in Nazeing, Essex, England. Came to America in 1631 with his parents and his second Hester Nichols. He was a blacksmith. Gave up his trade and went to sea in 1670. Commander of the "New London" later was the master of the "John and Hester"

Their 4th child Joseph born 02-11-1731 a sea captain married Margaret Comstock lived on farms on Lake Pond Estates, New London, Conn. Moved to Butternut, Ostego Co. New York, where he was killed by a falling tree. They had 8 children.
Benjamin, their 8th child was born 11-29-1778 married Sally Arnold of E. Haddon, Conn. Moved to Plymouth, Chemango Co. New York. He died 7-27-1845 at Kishwaukee, Il. They had 15 children 3 died at birth.
Their 6th child John born 3-13-1822 in New York state. He married Anna Mc Cammon who died in 1851. They had 2 children Joseph 06-10-1845 He died at birth.
William born 02-05-1851 died about 1916 in Rockford, Il. John then married Adaline Banks in 10-03-1857 She was born 08-29-1838 and died in 1931. John and Adaline had 13 children.
